How to increase virtual memory and make computer run properly?

If you find yourself running out of virtual memory, or keep getting messages telling you that “Your system is low on virtual memory” error message, you might need to learn how to increase it to a more acceptable level using your computer’s control settings. Only in this way, can you run the computer and the installed program & hardware devices correctly. But do you know how to increase computer virtual memory?

First of all, you should know that Virtual memory is simulated RAM. When your entire RAM has been used up, the computer will shift data to an empty space on the hard drive. The computer swaps data to the hard disk and back to your RAM as needed. The less Virtual memory the computer has, the more chance for you to get various error messages. But different operating system requires a different size of Virtual memory. Take Windows XP as an example, its required minimum requirement is 512Mb.

run computer properlyHere, I take Windows XP as an example t show to how to increase Virtual memory so as to make computer run properly:
*Click on the “Start” menu, right click on “My Computer” and select “Properties”.
*Click the “Advanced tab” and choose “Settings” under the Performance option. Under the Performance options window, select the “Advance” tab and click “Change” under the Virtual Memory section at the bottom of the window.
*Then, choose “Custom size” under the paging file size for the chosen drive to set your computer’s virtual memory manually.
*Enter the sufficient amount of virtual memory in the “Maximum size” and “Initial size”. Note that the amount in the initial and maximum size should be the same. This is important because even a little difference will cause your CPU to change the paging file constantly. The most common value entered in the initial and maximum size is 768Mb. The value you will enter should be at least 1.5 times more than the physical RAM. For instance, if the physical memory is 512Mb, you should multiply it by 1.5 and enter768Mb.
*Click “Set” and OK to save all your changes.
*Restart your computer when prompted.

Besides the above steps, there are some other things that you can do in daily life to increase computer Virtual memory. The first one you should do is to disable unnecessary startup items. Too many programs load at one time will result in the lacking of system resource. That will greatly make the computer running slow because of not enough Virtual memory. To make computer run properly, you have to go to “Start” -> Run ->use the “msconfig” common to access System Configuration Utility, and then disable the programs that do not need to automatically run at windows startup. Hence, more CPU resources and memory will be released for faster computer startup.
Then, uninstall all the unneeded programs completely from the PC. The more unneeded programs on the PC, the slower it will be. You can uninstall programs easily by going through Start, Control Panel, Add/ Remove Programs to locate the unwanted program and click on “Remove/uninstall” after highlighting it.

After the above steps, check and repair Windows registry errors. As we all know that the registry is a heart and soul of any Windows system to store information on how the computer system appears and how it works. However, as the usage of the computer, all of PC users will gradually experience the downfall in the computer’s performance, and lots of the causes can be attributed to Windows registry errors. When the system cannot locate the required entries correctly or smoothly to load the computer or your desired program, it may display a “Your system is low on virtual memory” error message or some other kinds of error messages. So, to increase virtual memory and make computer run properly, repair registry errors as quickly as you can.

Want to increase virtual memory and run the computer properly? Yeah, it is important that you should make sure that the computer has enough virtual memory size so as to make the computer and all the added programs & hardware run correctly. Start increasing it right now and you will soon enjoy your computer without errors.
